ASA can be considered a UV resistant version of ABS with its excellent weather-ability and heat resistance. Both ABS and ASA can be vacuum formed, trimmed and fabricated with ease. Its mechanical properties are very similar to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) elastomers. However, unlike butadiene-based rubber, ASA has no double bonds in the polymer backbone, which results in significantly improved weathering and UV resistance as well as better long-term heat and chemical resistance when compared to diene rubbers. ASA is a thermoplastic, further classified as a styrenic plastic.
